At Lambton College we take pride in ensuring we provide high-quality services to our students. From airport pickup to health care, we ensure you have the information and resources you need to succeed. Below is a list of services available to International Students at Lambton:

  • Airport Pickup – The International Student Office ensures that International Students are greeted at the Sarnia Airport by either their host homestay families or by a representative from the International Office.
  • Initial Orientation – An orientation program delivered by the staff of the International Education and Services Department provides vital information regarding community services, academic issues and general life at Lambton College. Tours and various social activities are organized at the beginning of each semester.
  • Homestay Program – This program links our students with people in the community who wish to offer a room in their home to international students attending Lambton College. With English as their spoken language they provide students with a safe, welcoming environment. Students who live with homestay families are often included in family activities, and are made welcome as honored additions to these homes. Students pay the host family a fee for accommodation customized by the Homestay host and the student. Notification is required if students wish to access this service and a homestay administration fee of $150 CAD is applicable.
  • Residence & Meal Plan – The Lambton Inn is the newly renovated, modern residence available to students attending Lambton College. 140 shared rooms are available with either two single or double beds, a shared washroom, free cable television, a phone for free local calling, the college’s wireless network and laundry facilities are available for a small fee. A mandatory meal plan card can be purchased for use in any of the on campus outlets at the college as well as the snack bar in residence.
  • Peer Tutoring – The Learning Bridge, located in room M106 offers free academic tutoring designed to help students reach their academic goals and give them confidence in their abilities.
  • Study Visa/ Work Permit Assistance – Six months after being enrolled in a full-time program at Lambton, students may apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada for an Off Campus Work Permit. Students are offered information and support in completing the necessary forms. Students are also given support when renewing their study permits.
  • Applying to Universities – Lambton College participates in university transfer agreements with colleges and universities across Canada, the United States and Australia. These agreements allow international students to transfer credits obtained at Lambton College towards obtaining a diploma or university degree at another educational institution. There are currently more than 30 transfer agreements.

    Near completion of the final semester, the international office can assist international students understand the various options available to them and students are encouraged and supported to apply to several universities which Lambton College has negotiated transfer agreements with.
  • Student Group Activities – The International Student Office organizes a number of special group activities for international students each semester. These activities include regular sporting activities and a day trip to Niagara Falls and other special destinations in the province of Ontario.
  • Health Care – Lambton College recognizes the importance of medical protection. All internationals students have access to a comprehensive health and hospital insurance plan for a competitive monthly rate. Medical staff are on duty at the Wellness Centre in the Main Campus.

  • English as a Second Language – If an International Student has not completed a TOEFL or IELTS test at the time of application, the International Student Office can waive this requirement and test the student upon arrival. Depending on the test results, the International Student Office can organize additional ESL courses to address any language deficiencies. Some students may have to take 1-2 semesters of specialized ESL training. This flexibility and ability to customize ESL programs for International students helps make Lambton College one of the top choices for International Students who need such assistance.
  • Scholarships – Each year the International Student Office selects the top applications and awards scholarships based on academic and extra circular merit. Please contact the International Office for more information on our scholarships.
  • On Campus Employment – Lambton College is pleased to offer “on campus” employment opportunities for new international students. There are often part time positions available in the college residence, bookstore, library and various other academic departments on campus. It is a competitive process and students are expected to submit a resume, cover letter and possibly participate in an interview.
  • Employment Training Assistance – Lambton College International Education Office provides individual help and support to international students seeking to access a variety of employment options while living and studying in Sarnia. RBC Canada has generously provided the resources to hire an employment consultant whose sole focus is facilitating international student employment.
