Autism and Behavioural Science

Students who meet admission requirements will be excited to know that they can now branch out into the publicly demanded and personally rewarding field of Autism and Behavioural Science. This graduate certificate program provides students with expertise in the field of autism and behavioural science for application within the autism sector, across the lifespan and the children's service sector. Emphasis is placed on the collaborative design, implementation and evaluation of effective behavioural intervention plans according to the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Intensive Behaviour Intervention (IBI). Gain hands-on experience throughout the program, with open access to Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education lab school. This unique experience translates well to future employers and is a great skills-building opportunity for students prior to field placement.Students will enjoy the unique Wednesday through Friday delivery model. This model makes part-time employment more manageable and creates more time for study. It also reduces commuting time for traveling students and is beneficial to field placement scheduling. At Lambton Collegewe offer a flexible delivery schedule that allows you to complete the program in-class on a part-time basis in just two years! This can be an ideal option for students who are currently working in the field or are otherwise unable to attend full-time. This certificate program appeals to both part and full-time students interested in the Bookkeeping field. The certificate is designed to provide a base of understanding and skills that would lead towards the bookkeeping or accounting fields. The program has flexible course delivery to meet the varied needs of the student audience. Many of the online offerings are equivalent to Lambton College courses. The college maximizes the number of courses offered in the in-class format.The courses meet the academic requirements of the Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping, leading to certification as a Certified Bookkeeper. The program is comprised of twelve courses that include both theory and computer application. Upon completion of the program, students will be governed by a Code of Ethics, which sets out professional responsibilities and conduct. Please note: all courses are available on a full or part-time basis.

Chemical Production & Power Engineering Technician

Upon graduation students will possess skills in equipment operation, process control and troubleshooting, with a background of chemical, mathematics, physics, electronics, instrumentation and various industrial processes. They will also study human interaction skills, report writing and occupational health and safety. Graduates will comprehend regulations pertaining to environmental and health and safety legislation. In addition, graduates will have had the academic preparations to write Operating Engineering examinations. At each level, the elements of safe practices and awareness of personal responsibilities are stressed. Students will perform practical requirements in the state-of-the-art facilities within the Centre of Excellence for Process Manufacturing (CEPM). Refer to CEPM page for more information. Communicative Disorders Assistant

This one-year, three-semester program is designed for students who have completed a diploma, degree or equivalent program, and who wish to work in a supporting capacity with a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist. This program will prepare graduates to conduct programming with clients/patients after assessments from a professional Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist have been completed, in order to determine the best treatment goals. In-class curriculum is supported through hands-on training in the newly-developed audiology lab as well as practical experience working in the sound booth and with testing equipment.Students in this program participate in two seven-week placements; these placements are province-wide and students should expect to relocate during their placement terms. This program is recognized by the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC). Graduates of this program are eligible for full CDAAC membership.

Computer Networking Specialist

Join us for our next Information Session on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. in N107.This 35-week program will prepare students to install, maintain, manage, design and enhance computer networks. Curriculum also prepares students for the CompTIA A+ and the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) Server Administrator and Enterprise Administrator certifications. Full versions of various software programs are provided to students as part of the program.Class sizes encourage individualized instruction by a faculty of professionals. This hands-on program places strong emphasis on preparing students with the skills they need to start a new career. This program is made up of 11 modules that can be completed as a whole or can be completed as stand-alone modules. A ten-week industry based co-op placement is a necessary component for graduation.Please Note: This program is not OSAP eligible. Every day, society increases its dependence on computer technology, and the ability to program is the defining characteristic of computers. A computer does nothing without software which is the detailed sets of instructions telling the computer exactly what to do. Computer Programmers often referred to as Software Developers are the key people shaping the solutions of today and tomorrow.The Computer Programmer (CPRO) program is a two-year (4 semesters) Ontario College diploma program, with an optional internship component, that prepares students with highly marketable skills in the high-tech industry of software development and database management. The CPRO curriculum emphasizes the study of Internet technologies in the areas of client and server-side programming, mobile development, the design and maintenance of database systems, system design methodologies, and the Linux operating system. Some of the current technologies include HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Ajax, jQuery, JSON, XML, PHP, Oracle and Java. The CPRO program provides foundational knowledge for professional certification exams from Oracle Corporation which are listed at www.oracle.com. In addition to computer programming skills, employers require graduates to have sound business awareness. CPRO students develop skills in mathematical applications, presentation and written communications, business law, project management, and team dynamics needed to be successful in the business world. Graduates are proficient in various aspects of modern Web applications from the underlying server technology to the implementation of database transaction systems. They have the ability to use problem solving and critical thinking skills to analyze business requirements and design, develop, and implement "real-life" database-driven enterprise Web applications.

Construction Carpentry Techniques

Build a better future for yourself in a hands-on and practical learning environment. Lambton College’s Construction Carpentry Techniques program utilizes current technology, modern equipment and has a strong focus on eco-friendly building products and construction materials. As a graduate you will possess significant experience working in the 6,500 sq. ft. shop (located in the Lambton College Skilled Trades Training Centre) as well as in an 1,800 sq. ft. teaching house that is reconstructed annually by students in the program. This hands-on learning, combined with in-class training, will provide students with the skills necessary to enter the residential construction and renovation sector. Framing, layout, roof construction, stairs and foundations will be taught in detail as well as the fundamentals of calculating construction and labour costs.Students will also have the opportunity to attend annual trade shows and visit local job sites in the community where they will have the opportunity to network and learn from local industries. Successful graduates are exempt from the in-school basic level of the General Carpentry Apprenticeship Program.

Developmental Disabilities

If you strive for a career supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, then Lambton College’s Developmental Disabilities certificate program is for you. This program has industry-focused training courses and promotes the use of modern technology. Students utilize electronic tablets in order to demonstrate accessible communication tools for non-verbal communicators. Three new physical limitation suits have enabled students to actively experience the effects of aging and limited mobility. Additional instructional aides include interactive books, timers, adaptive toys and more.Graduates have the skills and knowledge required to assist individuals with intellectual and/or related developmental disabilities and accumulate approximately 200 hours of placement time. Graduates may pursue further education as Developmental Services Workers, utilizing existing transfer opportunities. Students have the opportunity to apply for membership through the Ontario Association on Developmental Disabilities (http://oadd.org/).

Early Childhood Education

This two-year program educates students to work effectively in a variety of settings with young children in order to nurture childhood development and maintain healthy relationships with their families. Students are introduced to both the theory and practice of Early Childhood Education. Traditional in-class lessons are reinforced through modern teaching technology (i.e. document camera, smart board, hands-on workshops, etc.) A video lab offers students the opportunity to observe children in Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education Centre - an on-campus lab school for the program. The Parent and Professional Resource Centre offers valuable resources for activities, research and professional development.Students graduate with 600+ hours of practical experience in settings which include infants and children up to age 12. All students enjoy six placements including at least one in Lambton College’s Early Childhood Education Centre. As a college training facility, students work with qualified staff to provide a stimulating, well-balanced program for children.

Students graduate with a recognized Ontario College Diploma and over 600 hours of practical hands-on experience while training at The Spa at Lambton, as well as comprehensive in-class education from qualified, experienced instructors. This Board of Governors certificate program will prepare students for the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) exams. Students are advised to confirm the provincial requirements for Home Inspectors. Please know that the cost of the courses do not include the cost of course manuals. Each course requires the Carson and Dunlop manual, which is approximately $230.00 per course. The following courses can be taken in any order with the exception of: CSCM-3890 Heating Inspection I and CSCM-3900 Heating Inspection II.Please Note: All courses are available on a full or part-time basis and are offered online.

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program will prepare you for this demanding and exciting career with a focus on active learning and industry-specific experience. Students will be taught the framework to become employed within the hospitality and tourism field in a management/supervisory capacity and will graduate with an extensive knowledge of this field, allowing them to gain entrance in a variety of roles upon graduation. Graduates work in various areas including event planning, sales, destination marketing organizations, local tourism operations, lodging and food and beverage. Students will enjoy the smaller class sizes and individual attention from dedicated and qualified faculty members. In-class training is complemented with a one-week international field study at a major tourism destination (domestic opportunities are also available), where students learn an appreciation for another culture. Each student is required to participate in a co-op resulting in a three to four month paid industry work placement. Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technician

With the increase in use of computerized equipment across all major industry sectors, the need for qualified instrumentation and control engineering technicians is evident. The Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technician program provides the necessary training and technical hands-on skills to operate and maintain control systems that incorporate digital, pneumatic and hydraulic processes. Instruments are used in the industry to measure and transmit signals to control the quality of products in petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food processing plants. They are also used in controlling environmental conditions in a variety of industrial and commercial buildings. Within the program, students will acquire the technical skills and knowledge to carry out maintenance, make a diagnosis, configure, calibrate and maintain measurement and indicating instrumentation (pneumatic, analog, digital, etc.) in a variety of replicated industrial settings. Students will enhance their in-class training through hands-on learning in Lambton’s Centre of Excellence for Process Manufacturing which contains complex lab and pilot plant facilities. This Centre duplicates a real-life manufacturing environment and the technologies developed can easily be scaled-up and transferred to the actual operating unit.

Law Clerk

Law clerks play a vital role in today’s modern law offices. This two-year program prepares students to work closely with lawyers and perform a variety of tasks that support the practice of law. During the first year, students will embrace an active-learning environment. Students are introduced to basic legal research skills and learn to prepare simple contracts based on simulated fact scenarios. Initial curriculum will build a solid knowledge base of the major areas of law (real estate, family, criminal, civil litigation, corporate, etc.) and will lay a foundation for applied learning in the second year as assignment and project-based curriculum emerges. Students become familiar with the law clerk world during field trips to court houses, land registries, local administrative tribunals, and libraries and through the advice and knowledge of notable guest speakers.An internship will enhance students' ability to apply their knowledge and skills in preparation for employment. Prior to the conclusion of the program students will obtain a supplementary credential, a certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention which provides additional job-readiness skills.  Furthermore, students will graduate with a firm grasp on a suite of current law office software programs. This two-year (10 months/year) program utilizes two training labs that include a total of 35 stationary massage therapy tables in individual private cubicles and includes modern equipment such as whirlpool tubs and therapeutic ultrasound equipment. Students participate in community outreaches using new portable massage tables and chairs.Surrounded by a team of professional faculty, including Registered Massage Therapists, chiropractors and experienced instructors, students are exposed to the practice of massage therapy, the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body, as well as learning treatment , prevention, rehabilitation, pain management and more.The capstone project for this program is an international field study that involves complete human dissection at the Hawaii Institute of Anatomy. Students study various systems of the human body while under direct supervision of a PhD anatomist. This experience is both an educationally and personally rewarding one as students learn cultural awareness and appreciation. This program meets competency requirements of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and graduates will receive an additional certificate in Ultrasound Therapy.

This Board of Governors certificate will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge using simulated case studies to prepare you for a future in Medical Transcription. This program has several prerequisites. Students are advised that each transcription course will require in excess of 8 hours of work per week. These changes are being made to better prepare students for the workload later in the certificate, and to help the student develop the highest level transcription skills that are required in the industry. Millwright Mechanical Technician

If you have an aptitude for mechanical applications and enjoy problem solving then the Millwright – Mechanical Technician (MTIM) program is what you are looking for. This program teaches the skills necessary to install, troubleshoot and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment critical to the operation of an industrial plant or facility.The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) recognizes MTIM as a co-op/diploma program with dual qualifications. It meets the standards of a Mechanical Technician program and it exceeds the standards of the in-school training requirements of an Industrial Millwright apprenticeship program. While enrolled, eligible students are sponsored as apprentices by the Industrial Education Cooperative (IEC). Graduates have the choice to seek employment as a mechanical technician or millwright apprentice.In addition to traditional classroom training the program includes numerous practical hands-on labs and projects performed in one of many shop areas, including: machining, welding, rigging and hoisting, machinery installation, assembly, disassembly, alignment and more. Experienced faculty provide further training and assistance with blueprint reading, pumps, valves, compressors, conveyors, pneumatics, hydraulics, lubrication and a variety of power transmission components. Technician level courses include materials science, preventive and predictive maintenance (vibration, balancing, NDE), project management, CAD, Responsible Care, communications, mathematics and electronics/electricity. Students who are in good academic standing during the first two terms of the program qualify for a possible four-month co-op placement. Graduates of the MTIM program are exempt from further in-school apprentice training* or testing**.*Graduates employed within Ontario are exempt from the 3 levels of in-school training but are still required to complete the on-the -job training. Transfer agreements with other provinces are negotiated on an individual basis**All apprentices must take the Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) test to complete their apprenticeship and gain recognition as a millwright. The C of Q test is administered by the MTCU.

Office Administration – Executive prepares students for a career by training and providing versatile office administration skills. The first year of study is common to all Office Administration streams. The second year is designed to provide students with an extensive practical understanding of the multiple functions and tasks performed by administrative personnel working with all levels of an organization.  Students will embrace an active-learning environment that includes extensive computer-based technical training and a capstone project that involves the creation of a professional portfolio. Graduates will be able to demonstrate their expert training in a variety of software applications ranging from word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software to desktop publishing, web page design, flow charts, forms and accounting software. Graduates also develop strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills, and will be capable of overseeing projects and budgets, organizing meetings, taking minutes, making travel arrangements as well as researching, developing and presenting a variety of business correspondence and reports. This program boasts high levels of student satisfaction. In an independent study students were 100% satisfied with this program and said the program provided them with the knowledge and skills that would be useful in their future careers.

A concentrated study of essential office skills as well as fundamental and intermediate computer skills will be provided in an active learning environment. These skills are transferable to most occupations in the 21st century. This certificate program forms the foundation for enhanced learning whereby students who wish to further their acquired skills and obtain specialization before taking employment, are encouraged to enter the second year of the Office Administration – Executive or Office Administration – Medical programs.

The Office Administration – Medical program is ideal for those interested in a health care setting outside of the direct patient-care specialty. The first year of study is common to all Office Administration streams. In the second year, students are exposed to an extensive practical understanding of the multiple functions and tasks performed by medical administrative office personnel who will work with a variety of physicians and health care service providers. Students will embrace an active-learning environment that includes computer-based technical training and a capstone project that involves the creation of a medical procedures manual. Students learn medical terminology along with a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology coupled with the introductory study of pharmacology. Graduates will be able to apply their specialized skills and knowledge gained through medical transcription and medical keyboarding, computerized medical OHIP billing and accounting, presentation, medical office procedures as well as expert word processing skills in order to work with a variety of reports, letters and data transcription of doctor’s orders, histories, physicals and operative information.

Paramedic

Lambton’s Paramedic program has the rare distinction (one of only a few programs) of having achieved national accreditation through the Canadian Medical Association! This means that our graduates are eligible to pursue employment anywhere in Canada. Students study in the paramedic lab on a weekly basis and in Lambton’s Human Simulation Lab, which features high fidelity mannequins that can breathe, talk, and produce vital signs. Clinical training allows students to apply their skills in a state-of-the-art hospital and local ambulance service centres. Through the use of the DriveWise Simulator, students experience what it feels like to drive emergency vehicles in varied road conditions, in a safe and controlled environment. Students who play a part in first-response situations at Lambton's Fire & Public Safety Center of Excellence, which recently underwent an approximate $11 million upgrade and is collaboratively used between criminal justice, protection, security & investigation and fire students. Graduates apply relevant theory, practice safely and competently, and comply with current legislation, regulations, standards, and established policies and procedures. This program offers challenging career opportunities in emergency care services, health facilities, health care and related agencies. Volunteer opportunities exist for students to assist with paramedic services. Some examples of these opportunities are: Sarnia Sting hockey games, Sarnia Bayfest, and local fundraising and entertainment events. Following successful completion of the paramedic program, graduates are eligible to write Ontario Ministry of Health’s Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant Certification. The Paramedic program is also accredited and recognized by the Canadian Armed Forces. Pharmacy Technician

Find out how you can work towards a Pharmacy Technician Diploma AND a Bachelor of Arts in Community Health Degree at the SAME TIME!A Pharmacy Technician is an essential element within the health care team. This program offers low student-teacher ratios with experts who continue to work in the field. As a Pharmacy Technician student, you will gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for success in both retail and hospital settings. You will learn about relevant legislation, health-care ethics, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, customer care, hospital and retail software systems, calculations, inventory management, hospital practice, and infection control. During fourth semester, students travel to Toronto as part of a capstone project that includes visits with pharmacy technicians working in non-traditional roles. This includes research and development facilities, a third party insurance company, research hospitals, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Guelph Veterinary Hospital and a compounding facility. Traditional in-class instruction is enhanced through teamwork, role-playing activities, guest speakers and innovative lessons. A fully equipped community/hospital lab provides students with hands-on experience dispensing medications, compounding pharmaceuticals and developing aseptic techniques.Students will complete two unpaid four-week work placements under the supervision of a pharmacist/technician during semester four: one in a retail/community pharmacy and one in a hospital pharmacy setting. Police Foundations

Your educational aspiration for entry into policing or another related law enforcement agency is attainable through the Police Foundations program.During the first year a broad theoretical foundation is provided on human relations and an overview of the criminal justice system. The second year focuses on preparing students for the Constable Selection process. This includes police powers, investigation, evidence and community policing. (Students also achieve certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training from the Crisis Prevention Institute.) During their studies students will utilize similar testing instruments from the Constable Selection process such as Police Analytical Thinking Inventory (PATI); Written Communications Testing (WCT); and Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP). The goal of the Police Foundations program is to provide the student with a well-rounded education that prepares them for a possible career in law enforcement. Students play a part in first-response situations at Lambton’s Fire and Public Safety Centre of Excellence, which recently underwent an approximate $11 million upgrade and is collaboratively used between police, fire, paramedic and criminal justice students. A Drivewise simulator allows students to experience what it feels like to drive emergency vehicles in various road conditions, all in a safe and controlled environment. Practical Nursing

Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) are an integral part of the inter-professional health care team. They provide care to individuals with a broad scope of health care needs within diverse working environments. Lambton’s experienced faculty approach teaching from an inter-professional perspective. Hybrid courses and individualized programming offer flexibility for student learning and enhances student success. Advances in technology and evidence-informed practice are integrated throughout the program.Students within this program benefit from hands-on experience working in both lab and clinical settings. Lambton’s facilities include a human simulation lab, where students work with mid and high-fidelity mannequins that can breathe, talk, produce vital signs and simulate the birthing process. Hospital and clinical placements help students to form a relationship with clients, solidify their critical thinking skills and professional nursing practice. This program shares the first year of study with the Police Foundations program where students are introduced to a broad theoretical foundation in human relations and an overview of the criminal justice system. Second year of study prepares graduates for a successful career as a security professional in both the private and public (law enforcement) sectors. Students play a part in first-response situations at Lambton's Fire & Public Safety Centre of Excellence, which recently underwent an approximate $11 million upgrade and is collaboratively used between criminal justice, fire and paramedic students. Gain volunteer hours with Lambton's student-run Safe Walk program and apply for volunteer opportunities with local police services in traffic control and search and rescue capacities. Lambton's faculty represent a diverse representation of the security field from Canada Border Services, police, security and other related professionals. This, coupled with small class-sizes, will ensure students receive a highly successful educational experience. A field placement component occurs in the fourth semester of the program. Students combine theory and practice while working in a professional security environment. Placement also assists in clarifying career goals and developing interpersonal and professional skills appropriate to your practice. Renovation Technician

If your ambition is to run your own renovation company or to gain employment in a successful construction company, this accelerated program is for you.  In three semesters, students cover advanced finishes, decks and porches, stamped concrete, alternative framing systems as well as additional components to renovation construction with an emphasis placed on eco-friendly building practices. Through hands-on projects utilizing Lambton’s 6,500 sq. ft. shop and 1,800 sq. ft. teaching house, reconstructed annually by students, theory is applied on a daily basis. Renovation Technician students participate in community-based learning projects such as rebuilding local business structures or working with non-profit organizations. Training is safety-based and business-focused. Courses in computer estimating and project management are key to the well-rounded education offered in this program. All training has a strong focus on safety and energy efficiency, construction and design. Students also have the opportunity to attend annual trade shows and visit local job sites in the community where they will have the opportunity to network and learn from local industries.  Graduates are exempt from the basic and intermediate levels of the in school portion of the General Carpentry apprenticeship program and graduate with a Designing with Insulated Concrete Forming certificate, as well as certification in Fall Protection, Basic First Aid - CPR, training in propane safety (ROT), scissor-lift, boom-lift and WHMIS.

Social Service Worker

The Social Service Worker program utilizes applied learning combined with strong theoretical training to prepare students for this challenging and rewarding profession.Students will value the smaller class sizes and personal attention as they are preparing to work in the broad social welfare community. Core curriculum concentrates on developing students' interpersonal relations, communication, presentation and networking skills. Students will also be actively involved in community activities.This program uses modern technology-based facilities such as Lambton College's learning studio, to promote active learning and strengths-based strategies as tools for interactive and flexible learning environments. Learning is further enhanced through group work and community service. Students complete a minimum of 60 hours of community service and will also complete 40 weeks of field work experience (earned over two years) with community-based organizations. The one-year Welding Techniques program provides students with the opportunity to learn about and practice most of the basic welding techniques. Courses include Welding Processess, Fitting and Layout, Blueprint Reading and Sketching, CAD, Metallurgy, Electronics and Communications. Graduates from this program have the opportunity to transfer to the second year of Conestoga College’s Welding Engineering Technician program upon completion.
