The School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI) was first implemented in 1997. Its mandate is to fund projects and forums that focus on providing a seamless transition from secondary school to college.
... a seamless transition from secondary school to college.
The SCWI mandate aligns with the Ministry of Education’s strategic goals of improving student success in secondary education. This can be done by increasing access and participation in post-secondary education and training. The initiative is co-funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities and co-managed under the leadership of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education and the Committee of (College) Presidents. In recent years, the biggest provincial project has been the Dual Credit Program. This program was introduced in December 2005 and since then has been growing.
Other programs that are funded by the SCWI at Lambton College are School-Within-A-College, Bridging the Gap Camps and a variety of forums and activities that focus on educating high school students on College options. The College also has a Mobile Trades Trailer that is a traveling workshop that focuses specifically on highlighting College skilled trades programs for senior elementary students.
